Happy Labor Day!

“Good Grief, Charles Brown. They Never Told You if You Got the Job?”
Charlie Brown never got much respect. Not from Lucy, who when she wasn’t snatching the football away at the last minute, was making fun of his pitching skills, nor from the Little Red-Haired Girl, with whom he was so infatuated. Now, as it turns out, Charles Brown doesn’t get much respect from Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For. Out of his 100 applications for a job as a marketing manager, the Charlie Brown of our story has no idea where he stands with six out 10 of the companies.

Criminal background check firm gets slammed by FTC
More reason to think twice about pre-employment criminal background checks: How sure can you be that the info you get is accurate? Sixty-Seven Percent of Candidates Think About the Job Search Six Months Prior to Actively Searching
Sixty-seven percent of job candidates think about looking for a new job within six months before actively searching, according to CareerBuilder’s 2012 Candidate Behavior Study. Throughout those six months, candidates are consulting multiple sources to research opportunities and potential employers. For example, 84 percent go on search engines like Google, 75 percent visit company websites, and 67 percent look at company Facebook pages. Again, this is just a handful of sources job candidates consult when considering a new job – before they even apply.

Employer Network Promotes Jobs for Wounded Veterans
A national network of more than 100 U.S. employers is on a mission to find, hire and accommodate injured military veterans in the workplace. The Network of Champions, which grew out of a recruiting program for wounded former service members at Northrup Grumman, has spread largely by word of mouth. And it’s still growing—as is the need.

Organizational Values: Live Them and They — the Talent — Will Come
“For us this lawsuit has always been about something much more important than patents or money. It’s about values. We value originality and innovation and pour our lives into making the best products on Earth. And we do this to delight our customers, not for competitors to flagrantly copy.” This was part of the missive that Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, sent his employees after the big jury verdict that Apple won against Samsung.

Lack of Experience Leaves Half of 2012 College Grads Jobless, Underemployed
They studied for years. They met the requirements. Proudly, they walked across the stage to receive their coveted degrees. Yet, millions of recent college graduates are receiving a not so pleasant return on their educational investments: unemployment. According to a study by the Associated Press, more than half, or 53 percent, of the nation's recent college graduates are unemployed or underemployed

The Recruiter-Candidate Relationship: It’s Complicated
Maintaining relationships with candidates is one of the hardest elements of the recruitment process; however, a new survey shows that it’s also one of the most crucial.
