One In Five Job-Seekers Reject Employers Who Ban Social Media
One in five job-seekers (19.7%) say they would refuse to work for an employer who didn’t allow them to access social media in the workplace, according to survey results in a new white paper titled “Tomorrow’s Workforce” published by Hays, a recruitment firm based in the U.K.

Online screening prompts legal concerns
As more companies turn to online pre-employment tests, complaints of bias are cropping up. One came from Vicky Sandy, who in 2007 was turned down for a cashier job at a Kroger Co. supermarket in West Virginia after taking a 50-question test that asked her to rate the degree to which she was self-confident, always cheerful, and tried to sense what others thought and felt.

New Study: Long-Term Unemployment Viewed By Hiring Companies As Worse Than A Criminal Record
A survey released today shows that people who have criminal records but are holding down a job have an easier time impressing hiring managers than do people who have been out of work for two years or more. The study is by Bullhorn, a Boston maker of recruiting software. The company ran an anonymous survey between August 23-28 of 1,500 staffing recruiters, corporate recruiters and hiring managers who use Bullhorn’s products.

According to a CareerBuilder survey, 75 percent of job seekers reported that the look and feel of a job description influences their decision to apply. Job postings with videos are viewed 12 percent more than postings without -- and receive a 34 percent greater application rate.
