Roundup: This Week's Top Recruiting Stories From Around The Web
Recruiting Roundup: This week video is on the rise in recruiting, and interviewing, Indeed.com announce 100 million visitors used their site in January to look for jobs
and more...
How 100 million unique visitors use Indeed to find jobs
We created Indeed to help as many people as possible find jobs. In January, over 100 million unique visitors came to the site to do just that! Indeed is the starting point for more job searches and the source of more hires than any other site. Last month alone, visitors to the Indeed network performed over 3 billion searches, more than 1,000 searches every second. People use Indeed to search for jobs in over 50 countries and in 26 languages. Traffic continues to grow worldwide, with the most rapid growth occurring in Russia, Japan, South Africa, Australia and India.
Do You Post Salary in Job Postings?
Do you put the salary for the job in your job postings, either your online job postings or in other venues? This debate about putting salary in job postings becomes more important as job applicants are willing to settle just to have a job. This could cause retention chaos as jobs become more available or motivation damage for people who are under-employed, under-utilized, and bored.
You Don’t Know It, But Women See Gender Bias in Your Job Postings
Are a few gender-themed words in your job descriptions signaling women, unconsciously, to not apply? A scientific study of 4,000 job descriptions revealed that a lack of gender-inclusive wording caused significant implications for recruiting professionals tasked to recruit women to hard-to-fill positions underrepresented by women.
Why Video? 6 Benefits of Making Video Part of Your Recruitment Mix
Not only is video a dominant form of communication; it is proven to be influential, as well. Consumers are not just viewing content, but absorbing it, and letting themselves be swayed by it. When it comes to recruiting, potential and current employees are the customer, and the companies they choose to work for are the products they invest in.
Seventy-Five Percent of Job Applicants Do Not Hear Back From Employers
Job hunting can be a frustrating process especially if you have no idea whether the employer made a decision or even saw your application. The vast majority (75 percent) of workers who applied to jobs using various resources in the last year said they never heard back from the employer, according to a nationwide CareerBuilder survey.
63 Percent of Companies Use Video Interviews
A new OfficeTeam survey has revealed that 63 percent of HR managers said their company often uses video technology to conduct employment interviews. This is a stratospheric jump from 2011 when just 14 percent reported the same. Over the next three years, 13 percent of respondents said their organizations would more aggressively pursue video interviews while 85 percent predict the number of video interviews to remain the same.

Roundup: This Week's Top Recruiting Stories From Around The Web
Recruiting Roundup: This week a six things you should include in every job description, streamlining the interview process, how to interview interns
and more...
12 Tricky Interview Questions For Interns
Internship seekers should prepare for common interview questions like “What are your strengths,” or “What are your weaknesses,” but they can also expect less conventional queries.
What Do You Want In An Applicant Tracking System?
At CMS we speak with employers every day who are looking to make a change to their recruiting and applicant tracking system. With budgets in place for the new year, we see a lot of volume and a lot of questions at the beginning of the year.
3 Out of 4 Hires Fail: How to Beat the Odds
The Hall-of-Famer Ted Williams famously said baseball is “the only field of endeavor where a man can succeed three times out of 10 and be considered a good performer.” Maybe not the only one: The same could be said for hiring.
Six Things You Need in Every Job Description
Your job description is a sales pitch for your company and the position. Writing an effective job description is essential to attract the right applicants, and can cut your time to hire by attracting more qualified applicants to the position.
Streamlining the Interview Process
Many recruiters have experienced the knock-down drag-out fighting of going through many rounds of in-person interviews. The main problem with having rounds upon rounds of these interviews is that new information about the candidate is rarely uncovered. Plus, the individuals involved in the interview process are taken away from their jobs to conduct these time-consuming interviews.
These 5 Trends Are Shaping the Future of Pre-hire Assessments
2013 is going to present the start of a major tipping point in the way people find and are evaluated for jobs (and vice versa), and a blend of technology and assessment content will play a big role in these ongoing changes.

Roundup: This Week's Top Recruiting Stories From Around The Web
Recruiting Roundup: This week one of America's largest retailers plans to add 80,000 seasonal workers, what happens when your applicant can't apply, how to alienate potential employees
and more...
ATS & the Candidate Experience
Our customer service department received an interesting phone call yesterday, from a job seeker. This is pretty unusual for our customer service to hear from applicants. What really stood out about this call, was that it was an applicant for a company that was not an iRecruit customer. They were using another Applicant Tracking software!
Saying You Can’t Find Talent Is Like Saying You Can’t Find Anything to Watch on TV
As a child living in a rural area, I had but three, maybe four channels when the weather cooperated, to watch. Installing cable down our very long lane was not economically sensible, and my father sure wasn’t going to install one of those monstrous satellite dishes in the yard.
The Future of Talent Is in Clusters
An effective team is a powerful thing. Many of us have participated on teams where the members complement each other, trust each other and find ways of working that are not only effective, but also enjoyable. For teams like this, performance is typically much higher than might be expected of the sum of individuals.
Home Depot to hire 80000 seasonal workers
Home Depot said Wednesday it will hire more than 80,000 seasonal workers for this year's spring selling season — up from about 70,000 a year ago. It cited expectations of sales growth.
2 Interview Questions I Can't Stand
These two questions should be banned from job interviews. Yet they're perennial favorites. Now that I’m the CEO of an asset management firm, I often view myself as an escaped refugee from traditional Wall Street. I can tell you firsthand that there is a big problem with the way most financial companies interview job candidates. When you structure interviews around clichés, you either end up hiring by stereotype, or you wind up with a staff full of people who think just like you. Memories of the stale responses of interviews past still make me shudder. More importantly, they can’t generate a vibrant team with energy and fresh perspectives.
How to Lose Candidates and Alienate Prospective Employees
Like the date who wears too much AXE body spray or the Kardashian sister who chooses the wrong dress to host the ‘X Factor’ in, we do not always make the wisest choices in our attempts to come across as attractive, engaging and professional.
Nationwide Job Openings Continued to Grow in January
Simply Hired, a technology company that operates one of the world's largest job search engines, released its February 2013 U.S. Employment Outlook report which highlights the job industry and employer trends in national and regional U.S. markets.

ATS & the Candidate Experience

The applicant called the company he was applying to at first because he was having trouble navigating their online application form. They told him “We can’t help you. Call iRecruit.” So he did. When we realized he was not applying to one of our customers and we couldn’t help him, we advised him to email or contact the other ATS for support in completing his application.
Though unusual, this is not the first time we’ve received calls from applicants using another software. In that situation we always let the company know that their applicant had reached out to us in error. I also let them know how iRecruit can help them simplify the recruiting experience.
We always talk about the “candidate experience” and being the “employer of choice”. Number one on that list is to make it easy for interested parties to apply for your jobs.

Roundup: This Week's Top Recruiting Stories From Around The Web
Recruiting Roundup: This week why some recruiters will always be successful, how to recruit if you work for a "lousy" company, improving the candidate experience and more...
Don't Hire the Right Person for the Job: or, Why Some Industries Can't Be Fixed from Within
Workers often choose professions known for a certain dark side -- in particular, violence and aggression -- precisely because they already exhibit those darker qualities. That's why broken cultures, from Wall St. to the gridiron, cannot be fixed from within.
Why Some Recruiters Will Almost Always Be a Success
There is nothing like a good controversy to stir up one’s feelings and subsequently a fierce debate. One of my favorite things about reading articles on ERE is how some of its contributors have a wonderful ability to write articles that generate comments a mile long because of controversial subjects covered.
How to Recruit for a Lousy Company
One time, at cheerleading camp in Texas, one of the camp counselors asked us, “What do you do if your football team is the worst in the district?” The answer was to cheer anyway, because that is your responsibility. In fact, you have to cheer louder and bigger to motivate the team, the spectators, the alumni, and the students.
Improving the Candidate Experience
A recent article from ERE discusses the frequent buzzwords we hear relating to the candidate experience (culture, employment brand, employer of choice, relationships) and what it actually means from a candidate perspective.
In Hiring, a Friend in Need Is a Prospect, Indeed
Riju Parakh wasn’t even looking for a new job. But when a friend at Ernst & Young recommended her, Ms. Parakh’s résumé was quickly separated from the thousands the firm receives every week because she was referred by a current employee, and within three weeks she was hired. “You know how long this usually takes,” she said. “It was miraculous.”
Resume draws inspiration from Amazon.com, goes viral
To most people a resume is an essential part of the job hunting process. Bur for some, it is a creative way to market themselves. Phillippe Dubost seems to belong to the second category when it comes to being creative with resumes. Dubost's resume draws inspiration from the product listing template of Amazon.com. Dubost is a web product manager based in Paris who admits that he spends way too much time on the shopping site. Little wonder, that his resume looks an exact replica of Amazon's product page.

Improving the Candidate Experience
A recent article from ERE discusses the frequent buzzwords we hear relating to the candidate experience (culture, employment brand, employer of choice, relationships) and what it actually means from a candidate perspective.
The story begins with the author receiving an impersonal auto-response when applying to a job that surprised her. As a former product manager of applicant tracking systems, she knows that these messages can be customized. She goes on to explain that the technology you use to recruit candidates and get their information into your system should be easy to navigate and should reflect your company brand. Your brand is what makes a candidate say, “I will fit in there and I want to work there!”
With iRecruit as your Applicant Tracking and Recruiting software, creating custom response messages is simple. You can create a custom auto-response message right from your application form editor under "Email Correspondence". Thank the applicant for taking the time to apply with your company and let them know what your follow up process is, when/if they will be contacted, and if you will keep their information on file for a period of time.

“Good Grief, Charles Brown. They Never Told You if You Got the Job?”
Charlie Brown never got much respect. Not from Lucy, who when she wasn’t snatching the football away at the last minute, was making fun of his pitching skills, nor from the Little Red-Haired Girl, with whom he was so infatuated. Again, this is just a handful of sources job candidates consult when considering a new job – before they even apply.

The Network of Champions, which grew out of a recruiting program for wounded former service members at Northrup Grumman, has spread largely by word of mouth. And it’s still growing—as is the need.
Organizational Values: Live Them and They — the Talent — Will Come
“For us this lawsuit has always been about something much more important than patents or money. It’s about values. We value originality and innovation and pour our lives into making the best products on Earth. And we do this to delight our customers, not for competitors to flagrantly copy.” This was part of the missive that Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, sent his employees after the big jury verdict that Apple won against Samsung.
